For those planning to use their insurance benefits
I am an in-network provider for some insurance companies. Doing so requires that I agree to follow the insurance plan’s requirements. For example, I am required to submit information to the insurance company including a mental health diagnosis and other details. Insurance companies are able to limit the length of our sessions and the total number of counseling sessions. In addition, I know that many insurance plans today have high deductibles, making out-of-pocket costs for counseling expensive until the deductible is met. Some insurance companies also have a third party contracted for mental health and behavioral health services. Because of this, I prefer to verify your benefits prior to our first session. But you should also contact your insurance company to make sure that you understand the portion of my fees that you will be responsible for.
If I am not in-network with your insurance company, I am usually able to send them a claim or I can provide you with what is known as a “super bill”, an invoice you may submit to your insurance company for out-of-network reimbursement. However, some plans do not offer out-of-network benefits, so it is still wise to contact your insurance company to ask if out-of-network benefits are available for mental health or behavioral health.
Please note that my practice is not able to provide crisis services. Mental health crisis assessments for children can be accessed through Nationwide Children’s Hospital Emergency Room. Adults may access crisis assessment services through the Emergency Room of major hospitals like Riverside Methodist Hospital; The Ohio State University’s Wexner Medical Center, and Grant Hospital. The National Suicide Prevention LifeLine can be accessed 24/7 by calling or texting the new 988 emergency number. Crisis Services can also be accessed by calling 911. NetCare Access emergency response services can be reached (614) 276-CARE (2273).
